About this trip: At the rustic Berg Hotel Schmittenhoehe the rooms are average, but the amenities are terrific, and the hotel bars are lively. Most of the slopes are beginner to intermediate level. Rental equipment and lessons are available at the base of the gondola that goes right into the hotel. Our bus leaves Heidelberg a little earlier than normal (15:00) because we have to reach the gondola before it closes Friday night. Load your baggage on a cable car, ride to the top of the mountain, off-load your equipment at the cable car station which is also your hotel, and enjoy your weekend at a self-contained ski-in/out resort. Be the first to break trail in the morning, getting in a few runs before breakfast. Enjoy après-ski activities on the sun terrace of the hotel, adjourn to dinner, and then continue the fellowship at the hotel lounge with dance floor in the evening. Oh, by the way, the skiing is pretty darn good, too. (Tourist info: www.europasportregion.info or www.zellamsee.at) Trip Captain: Val Laragy Trip Opens: December 16 Final Payment Due: February 3 Trip Price: 300€, Single Supplement 50€. The trip is 3 nights (Friday - Sunday) and the price includes transportation, room with bath or shower, 3 breakfasts, and 2 dinners. Hotel: Our hotel, the relatively simple 3-star Berghotel Schmittenhoehe, is conveniently located on top of the mountain from which all trails emanate. Arrive at night and head to the bar before retiring for the night. Wake up in the morning, peak outside and make the first decision of the day – break trail then eat breakfast or eat breakfast then ski. At the end of the day decide whether to dance on the terrace bar counter in your ski attire or adjourn to the room for a quick change then rejoining the terrace party. Or perhaps you want to relax in the sauna. Enjoy a family style meal in the evening where colorful ski stories –sometime embellished – are told with great hilarity, and then transition to the rustic lounge where the fellowship continues. This hotel sets the conditions for a memorable weekend. They can be reached at +43-6542-2489. Skiing: We will ski at Zell am See and Kaprun with 55 lifts. These cover 25 km of black runs, 49 km of red runs, and 56 km of blue runs. Several tracks in the valley and one on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier are available for cross country skiing. Lift Passes: An adult 3-day lift pass is 113€, and for children it is 56€. A 2-day adult lift pass is 78€ and a child pass is 39€. Prices are approximate. Equipment Rental: Ski equipment rental is readily available at the resort but it is more expensive than renting through outdoor rec. Renting prior to departure may be more convenient for you. The TC is not responsible for equipment rental or sizing. The bus will not wait for those turning in equipment at the last minute; please plan accordingly. Lessons: Lessons are available. Recommend referring to the tourist info web site for more information. Departure: The bus will depart PHV from the Dental Clinic parking lot at 3 pm (15:00). The travel time is approximately 7 hours. When paid in full, members may reserve/select their bus seat. The bus waits for no one. Check-in with the TC prior to 14:45 or risk being assessed a 10€ penalty fee that will be used to support the trip party fund. Special Note: Please pack lightly, the bus has limited cargo carrying capacity. Limit yourself to an overnight bag, ski boot bag, and skis. Thanks. Return: The trip captain will notify skiers of the departure time the night before departure and again the morning of departure. Enjoy the trip! |
