Hotel Mondschein

About this trip: HISC was born in 1956 and in 1962 we made our first trip to the Mondschein in Stuben—our longest running trip.  HISC Past President Barry Swanson has been TCing us there for 40 years, which means he must have TC’d it first when he was just a baby. OK, there are others that claim that Barry stayed at the Mondschein right after it first opened in 1739!

This is a U-drive trip – but only about four-hours from Heidelberg. Less than a two minute walk from the hotel to the slopes and one of Austria’s greatest regions will be under your skis. The Arlberg is comprised of Stuben, St. Christoph, Lech, Zürs, and St. Anton and the whole area is covered by one ski pass. This resort has something for every type of skier, from the beginner to the advanced. Since this is a U-drive you have the option of leaving on Thursday and getting 3 ski-days.

Additional info on this ski region can be found by accessing the website www.skiarlberg.at. NOTE: This is a U-Drive trip.

Trip Price: 2 days 170€ - 185€ (varies by room configuration) , 3 days 250€. The trip is 2 or 3 nights (Thursday/Friday - Sunday) and the price includes room with bath or shower, 2 or 3 breakfasts, and 1 or 2 dinners. No transportation – this is a U-drive.

Skiing: We will ski at Arlberg with 84 lifts. These cover 58 km of black runs, 111 km of red runs, and 93 km of blue runs. Cross country might be possible with early snowfall. There is good snow making in the event natural snow is lacking.

The Albona lift easily connects skiers (blue run) to St. Christoph/St. Anton. St. Anton has extensive, varied slopes many of which experts and adventurous intermediates will thoroughly enjoy. The Arlberg Region offers snow runs for all ability levels, snowboard fun parks, carving areas, racing circuits, and numerous cozy meeting places. A trip ensured to provide variety and enjoyment.

Trip Opens: November 2

Final Payment Due: November 30

Hotel: We’re staying at the Hotel Mondschein in the town of Stuben. This romantic hotel has great food, a pool, sauna, solarium, a charming bar, and is less than a two-minute walk from the Albonabahn lift in what many believe is the best ski area in Austria. They can be reached at +43-5582-511.

Rental is an individual responsibility; the TC is not responsible for ensuring people have proper equipment. For more info on rental go to the website www.skiarlberg.at (Click on Welcome, then select Fun + Sport, then select RentaSki).

Ski Lessons: Arlberg is renowned for its world famous ski schools. Various ski schools in most of the area’s villages offer lessons. Additional info on lessons can be found by accessing the website www.skiarlberg.at (Click on Welcome, then select Fun + Sport, then select Skischool.) Individuals desiring ski instruction are responsible for arranging their own lessons. TC is not responsible for arranging this.
