About this trip: On this trip size matters; look again at the size of the Mont Blanc ski area – over 700 km of piste. But hey, we’re going there for what it offers now. It is simply one of Europe’s premier ski and snowboard areas and a place known for its night-life with a multitude of hopping après ski opportunities and clubs to keep you going until the wee hours of the morning. Chamonix is a huge winter paradise surrounded by seven superb ski areas and the most challenging terrain we’ll visit this ski season. Skiers can enjoy the easier slopes of Le Tour, the varied slopes of La Flegere, Le Brevent and Argentiere. Particularly famous is the 20 km run down the Vallee Blanche glacier from the Aiguille du Midi (3840 m). This day long ski run requires advance booking with a guide, but is an experience you’ll never forget. The hotel is located right in the center of Chamonix. Chamonix is a bustling town which is full of atmosphere, with cobbled streets and squares, beautiful old buildings, a fast running river, pavement cafes crowded with shoppers and tourists sipping drinks and staring at the glaciers above. If you like your snow and scenery on the wild side, give Chamonix a try. (Tourist info: www.chamonix.com) Trip Price: 340€, Single Supplement 190€. The trip is 3 nights (Friday - Monday) and the price includes transportation, 3 hot breakfast buffets, and 2 dinners. Skiing: We will ski at Mont Blanc with 24 cable cars and 175 lifts. These cover 100 km of black runs, 300 km of red runs, and 300 km of blue runs. There are more than 42 km of cross country ski trails. Once you get over the fact that the ski areas are disconnected and riding the public bus system to most areas is a must, you’ll love Chamonix. The Chamonix valley has a good variety of slopes and each area is well worth exploring. Le Tour has a good assortment of easier runs. Le Brevent, La Flegere, and Les Grands Montets offer diverse terrain suitable for advance beginners to experts. Some may want to experience the exhilaration of the Vallee Blanche. Weather cooperating, the trip includes stunning scenery, up close and personal exposure to the glacier, a heart-thumping climb down to the start point, solid intermediate skiing, and a heck of a climb out of a draw. To get the full experience, and doing so safely, requires a ski guide booked in advanced – expect to pay 80-100€ for the day outing (guide, lunch, taxi to the hotel). Boarders will enjoy the terrain-park, half-pipe, and boarder-cross areas of Grands Montets. Trip Opens: January 5 Final Payment Due: February 2 Trip Captain:None yet.
