Hello HISC friends!

I hope you all have been enjoying your summer.  I know many of you have been off travelling, visiting family and enjoying the warm weather.  I have too!

Your council has been working this summer on events for the upcoming year.  We're close to finalizing the much anticipated list of upcoming trips which will be posted on the website soon.

We are doing something different this year to open the season. On Saturday, 28 August please stop by our table at Heidelberg's C.A.R.E. Fair (a community wide organization event) which will be held at the Village Pavilion on Patrick Henry Village.  You can join or renew your membership.

In lieu of our picnic, we be co-hosting the Walk for Wounded Warriors starting at 1600 at the Eppelheim Schutzenhaus.  All proceeds go to the Landstuhl Fisher House.

Tickets for three of our most popular events will also be sold at the C.A.R.E. Fair and the Walk for Wounded Warriors:

  1. 4 September:  Heidelberg River Cruise and Castle Illumination.  Join us for a pre-boarding party dockside at the Neckar River.  After we board, we'll sail up the Neckar and return in time for the Heidelberg Castle Illumination.  Tickets are 20E for ages 2 and up.  Let a council member know if you are interested in tickets.  Please tell your friends and neighbors, especially those who are new to the area.  Contact me at President@Heidelbergski.com or any other council member for tickets.
  2. 18 September:   Bad Durkheim Wurstmarkt - 15Euro.   Join us on a trip to the 570-year-old Wurst Market in Bad Durkheim.  It's the Oktoberfest for wine lovers.  Choose from 150 different wines and sample the region's gastronimic specialties.  There are large wine halls with music, or smaller stands. Enjoy the carnival on the grounds also.  Price 15 Euro.  Bus information and pick up locations to follow.
  3. 2 October Cannstatter Volksfest in Stuttgart - 45E. Bad Cannstatt is the Stuttgart cousin to the Bavarian Oktoberfest (beer fest).  Price includes bus ride, seat at our reserved tables, three liters of beer and one half-chicken dinner. Trip Captains John and Maritza Taylor will meet you at 1200 at the PHV Park and Ride and will make another pickup at the Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof. Depart the fest approximately 2300, arriving back in Heidelberg around midnight. See the website for more info or email John or Maritza Taylor at john.taylor@eucom.mil or maritza.taylor@ymail.com.

Ski trip sales will begin at our first social on 16 September at the Hotel Zagreb, Schwetzingen.  This will be the first opportunity to sign up for our very popular Christmas trips to Arabba.  More info to follow as soon as details are finalized.  You must be a member to sign up for a trip, so joining or renewing your membership at the C.A.R.E. Fair or Walk for Wounded Warriors is your best bet for getting your number quickly.

Hope to see you at event soon,

Barb
