Greetings all,
Mike and Dayna Wiederich are scouting out our Danube bike route over the coming days. John and Maritza Taylor continue to work with the Ischgl Hotel to ensure the Ischgl partiers have a great “Concert on the Mountain” weekend, and Leslie Mehall continues to work with Siegi Tours to ensure the Memorial Day weekend golf escape is a first class experience. So, while the “season” continues to wind down, much work continues to best ensure those participating on one of these final trips have a great time.
As attention turns from skiing to spring activities, we look forward to continuing to see you at our three remaining socials. This coming Wednesday is Spring Swing. It’ll be an evening of raffles and ski repair – Ski Doctor will be servicing your sticks and planks one last time this season. Our 28 April social is bike night. John from John’s Radhaus will provide various bike maintenance tips and will be available for off-line answers to your bike questions. Ask him how to be fitted for a bike. Finally, our 12 May End-of-Season Fiesta will, by popular demand, include our fun, laid back wine tasting. We’ll also treat membership to a season grand finale cake.
Final trip payment for Ischgl is due Wednesday. Please complete your payment. It would be great if trip payments for the Danube and the Golf escape could be finalized as well since we are closing out our fiscal year next week.
This year’s council will spend the next several weeks wrapping up book keeping and other administrative loose ends and facilitating a smooth transition between councils. Your 2010-2011 HISC Council will accept transfer of responsibilities effective 5 May in time to host the 12 May social.
As you will recall, there have been several announcements accepting member change proposals to our HISC Constitution and By-Laws. The council has not received any recommended amendments from membership. This being the case, the council will simply incorporate several administrative fixes to the HISC Constitution and By-Laws that have no substantive impact to the organization’s protocols; they simply eliminate verbiage awkwardness or provide clarification.
Trip Captains, please return your TC materials to Linnea if your trip has concluded. We would like to begin preparing the binders for summer storage.
Refunds: Our fiscal year financial records are closing next week; there will be an audit shortly thereafter. Please petition the council by 12 April should you believe you deserve a refund and think you have been overlooked during the course of the year. Provide sufficient information about the circumstances of the cancellation so that the Council can make an informed refund decision. The Council will review the case prior to the 14 April social. Note: I’ve been listing the names of those members receiving refunds in the refund paragraph of the SnoSheet. Past SnoSheets are available on the Club’s website should you want to double check to see if you are a refund recipient before going through the effort of preparing a petition. Doug has been mailing refunds to those who are unable to attend a social.
Trips:
Ischgl (TC:John and Maritza Taylor) (30 Apr – 2 May) – Wait List Only This is the first time we’ve been able to offer this trip with accommodations in Ischgl. We can thank John and Maritza for that. This is our end-of-season ski weekend bash. It’s about the “happening” more than about the skiing. Skiing is normally good until about 1300 each day at which time the snow begins getting pretty slushy. While the skiing can be fun – fabulous ski area – most go for the sun, the Saturday concert on the slopes, and the continuous party in town. Alica Keyes, the featured artist for the weekend, will add to the quality of the weekend. Please note that the bus departure is 1200 on Friday. This early departure gets us to Ischgl in time for dinner and the pre-concert festivities in town. Non-skiers can access the concert on the slope.
Danube Bike Trip (TC: Mike Wiederich) (28-31 May) Wait List Only. This is a great bike outing along the Donau River’s virtually flat bike trail. Friday 1630 bikes are loaded on the bus bike trailer and baggage is tossed under the bus. We spend Friday night at Passau. The next morning, bags are loaded on the bus and bikes are off-loaded from the trailer. We then head out on a leisurely bike adventure arriving at the next hotel later in the day where baggage awaits our arrival. This process is repeated on Sunday and Monday. On Monday we reach Grein – about 150 km from our start point – board our bus and return to Heidelberg reaching our destination at about 2200-2300. Each day’s adventure is tailorable to the interests of your group. Maps are provided. Extended bike routes or truncated bike routes can be taken each day; in essence, there is a lot of flexibility in the daily schedule. This is a great family outing along a very scenic stretch of the Donau.
St. Veit Golf (TC: Leslie Mehal) (28-31 May) This is a U-drive to the scenic area of St. Veit. Trip participants will enjoy golf outings at three different golf resorts. Each course is surrounded by breathtaking scenery and crystal clear air. Add a day to or from St. Veit and enjoy the nearby sites of Salzburg or Berchtesgarden. Reminder: Non-HISC members may accompany us on the trip. These individuals will pay the cost of the trip plus a 10E guest fee in lieu of having to join the club for 20E, 40E, or 45E. So invite your friends on the trip and introduce them to the club and the beauty of Austria.
Look forward to seeing you Wednesday evening.
Thanks so much for supporting the club.
See you on the high ground.
Regards, Al Rasper |
